Angliss International Hotel School graduate honoured
Diploma of Hospitality student ‘Anna’ Soohyun Choi recently graduated with flying colours.
Anna’s determination and commitment enabled her to flourish in her studies and she was presented with the Special Achievement Award for, ‘Most Outstanding Diploma of Hospitality Student, Angliss International Hotel School’, sponsored by the Marriott Hotel.
Angliss International Hotel School co-ordinator Sheena D’Souza said Soohyun was selected for this award as she successfully completed her placement program at the Park Hyatt and achieved excellent grades.
“Her professional and leadership qualities enabled Soohyun to succeed greatly in this course, and contributed to her growth in the luxury hotel environment,” Ms D’Souza said.
Following on from her work placement, Anna has now secured a full-time position as a Food and Beverage Attendant in the Room Service department at the Park Hyatt.
Having already completed a bachelor degree, Anna only wanted to study for a year, and Angliss International Hotel School provided valuable industry experience.
“I saw an advertisement for the new course at William Angliss that was only for a year, and which included work placement. I didn’t think for long- I applied for it as soon as possible.”
Studying at William Angliss Institute enabled Anna to see herself, working in the industry.
“As I learnt all the different aspects, I wanted to learn more and more. I met so many teachers who loved the hotel or hospitality industry. Their passion made the subjects very interesting, this influenced my wanting to be part of the industry.”
Work placement gave Anna the confidence to meet the daily challenges of her job requirements, “The most useful aspect of the course was the practical learning. The work placement played a huge role for me to take that first step working at the Park Hyatt Melbourne. Working in areas including customer service, making beds, and even learning about different dietary requirements gave me a basic foundation.
Anna’s passion and confidence has been rewarded, “It hasn’t been long since I started working at the hotel, but I’ve been offered full time work, with greater responsibility. There is still a lot to learn and to get used to, but I am learning every day and continuing to challenge myself. “
In future, if the opportunity presents itself for Anna, “I will be coming back to study at William Angliss Institute.”
